Water Resources

The Santa Maria Farm is strategically located on the watershed of the Paraná River and Baixo Iguaçu hydrographic basins. This geographical factor contributed to the formation of several springs in the interior and outer limits of the property, which form important rivers in the region, such as São João, the João Gualberto, Apepú, Bonito and Tamanduá rivers.

Another important fact is that the Iguaçu National Park and the Santa Maria Farm participate in the recharge process of the Guarani Aquifer, the largest natural freshwater reservoir ever discovered. At an average depth of 1,500 meters, this aquifer extends over approximately 1.3 million square kilometers and reaches areas in the states of São Paulo, Goiás, Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Paraná, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande.

The region’s regular rainfall over the forests allows for the natural absorption of water and supplies the water table.
